Arlington, Va. (July 13, 2020)— NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association today announced that nominations for the 2020 NTCA eXcellence Awards are now open.

The eXcellence Awards are the highest recognition of individual achievement and honor those who have shown commitment to their community and the rural telecommunications industry. The awards pay tribute to individuals in eight categories: Associate Member Outstanding Achievement, Director Life Achievement, Heroism, Key Employee, Manager Life Achievement, Management Innovation, Outstanding Marketing Achievement and Special Achievement.

This year, NTCA will rename its most prestigious life achievement awards to honor longtime servant of the rural telecommunications industry James L. Bass, who was as one of NTCA’s earliest presidents, the founder of the NTCA political action committee and spent many years as the association’s general counsel.

The Director Life Achievement and Manager Life Achievement awards will become the James L. Bass Director Life Achievement and James L. Bass Manager Life Achievement awards. The Special Achievement award will also be renamed the Community Outreach Award.

NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield said of Mr. Bass, who passed away earlier this year at 98, “he believed in service – to his community, to his family, to his interests that he was passionate about, to the rural communications industry and certainly to his country with his extensive military service prior to his legal career. It is only fitting that these lifetime achievement awards are named for a man who spent his life in service to others.”

Award recipients will be honored and recognized by over 2,000 of their industry peers at the 2021 Rural Telecom Industry Meeting & Expo (RTIME). To nominate someone visit this link to the NTCA member portal. Nominations must be submitted online.
