Arlington, Va. (July 16, 2020)— NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association issued the following statement from Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield on today’s vote by the FCC to establish requirements to ensure the collection of more accurate data on the availability of broadband service.

“NTCA welcomes today’s vote, as the standards adopted to govern how providers report coverage on a well-founded ‘apples-to-apples’ basis – and enforcement of these standards – will be critical to improve the accuracy of broadband maps and ultimately drive more informed decision-making.

“We are also grateful that it appears that the Commission has adjusted the mapping ‘buffers’ proposed for fiber to more appropriately reflect the substantial capabilities of this technology and the realities of deploying networks in rural America. We look forward to reviewing these changes and other details once the final item is released.”
