Get Involved in Data Privacy Day

Data Privacy Day is recognized annually on January 28.  It is “an international effort to empower individuals and business to respect privacy, safeguard data and enable trust.”  This year, NTCA is participating in the conversation and has been named a Data Privacy Day Champion.  As a champion, we would like to show our support and share useful data privacy information and resources.

You do not need to be a big organization to prioritize the privacy of your employees and your subscribers.  To begin, the National Cyber Security Alliance suggests five ways in which you can get involved in data privacy with your employees:

  • Create a privacy aware culture.  Consider adopting a privacy framework to help you manage risk and create a culture of privacy in your organization such as using one of the following:
  • Organize a privacy awareness training.  This could consist of how privacy and data security applies to the work that employees do on a daily basis.

  • Help employees manage their individual privacy.  Teach employees how to update their privacy and security settings on personal accounts. Use NCSA's privacy settings page as a resource.

  • Add privacy to the employee’s toolbox.  This could consist of company-branded camera covers or privacy screens for their devices, or virtual private networks (VPNs) to secure their connections.

  • Let the Experts Handle It.  Build in mechanisms for making it easy for them to report privacy or security concerns to your internal or external experts.
